Our Local Governing Body
Essa Academy is part of the Essa Foundation Academies Trust and the Local Governing Body’s role is to set the direction for the academy, monitor and evaluate its performance, act as a critical friend and hold leaders to account for the pace and rate of improvement and the achievement of all pupils, ensure compliance with all financial, statutory and regulatory requirements, and help the academy respond to, and meet the needs of, parents and the wider local community.

Our Local Governors are:
Anwer Ibrahim Patel is the managing director of Cohens Chemist Ltd one of the largest independent retail pharmacy chains in the country and has a number of other business interests. He holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Bolton for services to the community. Anwer is a founding member and a director/trustee of the Essa Foundation Trust and EFAT. He is the Chair of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Local Governing Body of Essa Academy.
Martin Knowles is the Principal of Essa Academy. He is also a Governor.
Nicholas Ford is deputy head at Bolton School, an independent school in Bolton. He has over 20 years teaching and senior leadership experience in state schools. Nic is the Vice Chair of the Local Governing Body.
Ismail Kala has over 25 years teaching experience as a science teacher in a mixed community school in Blackburn. He has served as primary school governors for 20 years. He is also a trustee of a cricket and social club.
Paul Davidson is a teacher of Russian and French at Bolton School Boys Division, – an independent school in Bolton. He is Head of Russian and Head of modern foreign languages and has lived and worked in Japan, Russia, and France.
Julia Pilkington has over ten years experience as a teacher and currently works in a secondary school and has been a Middle Leader for seven years.
Wasim Raja is a local businessman in the community and takes part in charity events, in particular, fundraising for cancer patients.
Farook Atcha is a Project Officer working with local businesses for Bolton Council. He is also a qualified Youth and Community worker.
Lucy Lees is a senior leader at Mahdlo Youth Zone in Oldham.
Masud Kala is a qualified accountant and currently works at Bolton Hospice as the Director of Finance. He has also worked in industry, audit and the NHS.
Jordan Turner is the staff governor.
Neelam Arshad is a parent governor. She has 2 children at the academy.
